Frequently Asked Questions about Word

To change the default font, open the Font dialog box (Ctrl+D), select your desired font, style, and size, then click the "Set as Default" button. Choose whether to apply it to "This document only" or "All new documents based on this template."
A style is a set of formatting characteristics (like font, size, color, line spacing) that you can apply as a group to text. Using styles (e.g., Heading 1, Normal) helps maintain consistent formatting, makes document navigation easier, and is essential for generating an automatic Table of Contents.
Go to the Insert tab, click Page Number, and then choose where you want the numbers to appear (e.g., "Top of Page," "Bottom of Page"). You can also customize the format and starting number.
First, ensure you've applied heading styles (e.g., Heading 1, Heading 2) to your document's titles. Then, go to the References tab, click Table of Contents, and select an automatic table style. Word will generate it based on your headings.
Select the text or item you want to comment on. Go to the Review tab and click New Comment. A comment box will appear in the margin where you can type your feedback.
On the Review tab, click Track Changes. Any modifications to the document will now be marked with different colors and formatting. You can then accept or reject individual changes.
A section break divides your document into sections that can have different formatting (e.g., page orientation, headers/footers, column layouts) from the rest of the document. Use them when you need to apply unique formatting to part of your document.
Go to the Mailings tab and start the Mail Merge Wizard. You'll select your document type (letters, email messages), choose a recipient list (from Excel or Outlook), and then insert merge fields into your document to personalize each copy.
